The Peer Review

THE PLACES, SPACES & FACES OF YOUR COMMUNITY

As winter settles in, the middle of the year offers a chance to pause and reflect.

While plenty has changed in the property market, the places, spaces and faces that make our community so special continue to endure.

And they’re all on full display once again in this latest issue of The Peer Review.

You’ll meet the founders behind one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing hospitality success stories. Stop by Mr Brightside for a cup of joe. Discover a few wine bars worth your time. And explore simple ways to create a home that’s designed for the way you actually live.

Our Sales, Property Management and New Projects teams also share their market updates, offering their perspective on the trends they’re seeing across Melbourne’s southeast.

Plus, you’ll find out exactly what went down at our recent Piano Bar party…

Whether you’re thinking about your next move or simply enjoy keeping up with what’s happening in the local community, we hope there’s something in this edition that stays with you.

Filling your cup: The Blitz Bar story

The after-school rush is in full swing at Blitz Bar Toorak. Customers pile açaí bowls high with fruit, granola and generous drizzles of the famous house-made peanut butter. For the uninitiated, it’s easy to assume Blitz Bar has always been part of the neighbourhood. Seated shoulder-to-shoulder, co-founders Brandon Efron, Sam Vilshansky and Jordan Glick are quick to dispel that notion. Because behind Blitz Bar’s success lies a simpler story: three mates, a shared ambition and an idea worth backing.

Out and about: Our team’s favourite wine bars

Melbourne and wine bars go together like cheese and… well, wine. Whether you’re after a quick knock-off or somewhere to settle in and accidentally spend the next three hours, our city has no shortage of excellent options. And as a team that spends plenty of time exploring Melbourne’s food and hospitality scene, we’ve trialled more than a few ourselves. So naturally, we asked our people to share their favourite spots to crack open a bottle. Here’s what they said.

All roads lead to Caulfield: Meet Jacob Kingston

Steam curls up from a fresh espresso as newly appointed Partner Jacob Kingston settles into a seat by the window at his favourite local café, Elsternwick’s Carter Lovett. He’s just come from the gym and is already three coffees deep (this one’s number four). And it’s not even 10am. The man runs on caffeine and ideas. From volunteering overseas to working at The Wall Street Journal in New York, Jacob has always been searching for a life and career with meaning. And eventually, he found it, right back where he started, here at Gary Peer.

The art of hosting: Simple ways to make your home feel more inviting

There was a time when dinner parties felt reserved for special occasions. The heirloom china came out. Menus were planned days in advance. And hosts spent most of the evening worrying about things nobody else noticed. Thankfully, those days are behind us. Today, dinner parties are less about perfection and more about connection. We’re happy to say that creating a welcoming atmosphere doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few simple ways to prepare your home for guests and make entertaining feel stress-free.
