Worth a listen: Our team’s current favourites

What do history, early-2000s bangers, Greek mythology and footy commentary have in common? They’re all competing for airtime in the Gary Peer team’s headphones and car speakers between opens. How did we find out? Because we asked our people what’s been keeping them entertained, informed or inspired lately – and came away with a listening list almost as varied as they are.

Rebecca Schulz gets lost in the past

For Property Manager Rebecca Schulz, history is anything but dry.

She’s a regular listener of The Rest is History, where historians Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook explore events and characters from across the centuries.

It’s the sheer variety that keeps Rebecca coming back. One episode can take her somewhere completely different from the last, with plenty to learn along the way.

But the real drawcard? The hosts themselves. Their easy banter keeps even the history lessons entertaining – making this podcast one Rebecca is always happy to press play on.

Yvette Lipovetsky gives herself grace

Some podcasts suit a particular time of day. Marketing Assistant Yvette Lipovetsky has found one that works at both ends.

Give Yourself Grace has become a regular companion on her drive to morning Pilates – but it’s just as likely to be playing as she winds down before bed.

For Yvette, the podcast’s versatility is the appeal. With episodes spanning different topics and moods, she often finds something that suits whatever she needs at the time.

Morning motivation or end-of-day switch-off, consider the soundtrack sorted.

Brooke Griffiths loves the throwbacks

Property Manager Brooke Griffiths knows exactly which musical era deserves another spin.

Triple M 2000s takes her straight back to the decade of flip phones, Y2K and some very big tunes. And unlike the FM stations that can sometimes feel like they have the same handful of songs on permanent rotation, Brooke loves the variety.

For her, it’s just one great song after another.

Toby Sher stays across the conversation

Sales Support Toby Sher likes his listening to come with something to think about.

His podcast of choice is Call Me Back with Dan Senor, which explores the geopolitics affecting communities around the world.

Toby tunes in because he enjoys learning more about what’s happening beyond his immediate surroundings. It gives him another way to stay informed about international issues and hear conversations about the forces shaping them.

For someone who likes walking with a podcast in his ears, this one gives those kilometres a little extra substance.

Jenny Caughey finds the lighter side

Sometimes, you need a reminder not to take everything quite so seriously.

Branch Manager, Property Management Division and Licensed Estate Agent Jenny Caughey has found hers in Ben Crowe’s audiobook Where the Light Gets In.

For Jenny, the book’s message comes back to enjoying the things that make you laugh and remembering to have some fun along the way.

Her interpretation is perhaps the best summary: ‘none of us are getting out of here alive!’

Cheery? Debatable. A compelling argument for enjoying yourself while you’re here? Absolutely.

Joel Ser just does it

Partner and Licensed Estate Agent Joel Ser is currently hearing the story behind a brand almost everyone knows.

Phil Knight’s memoir Shoe Dog traces the creation of Nike – including the risks, setbacks and persistence behind its rise.

That behind-the-scenes perspective is exactly what has Joel hooked. He’s particularly interested in how Knight navigated the challenges of building the business – and the lessons that emerged from them.

And while the story centres on one of the world’s most recognisable brands, Joel finds plenty in it that applies well beyond business.

John Tsui-Po keeps sports on standby

When Sales Consultant John Tsui-Po is behind the wheel, there’s a good chance SEN is coming along for the ride.

The sports station gives him coverage throughout the day, making it an easy choice when he wants to keep across what’s happening.

But weekends are when it really earns its place on the dial.

With John regularly driving between opens, SEN lets him follow the footy without needing to be anywhere near a television.

Martina Ticha listens with purpose – and for home

Team Leader, Senior Property Manager and Licensed Estate Agent Martina Ticha has two very different recommendations.

Simon Sinek’s Start With Why appeals because it asks readers to look beyond what they do and consider the purpose behind it. Martina particularly likes its idea that purpose can be more inspiring than a product or process alone.

Then there’s Rádio Impuls. The Czech station brings music, news and a little piece of home into her everyday life, helping Martina stay connected with her roots while enjoying familiar sounds along the way.

Victor Ng returns to ancient Greece

Video Production Lead Victor Ng’s current listen is approximately a few thousand years older than most recommendations on this list.

He’s listening to Stephen Fry’s Odyssey, the fourth audiobook in his Greek Myths series.

Victor finds it an especially good follow-up for anyone who has watched The Odyssey and wants to venture further into the mythology behind it. The audiobook explores stories beyond those shown on screen, while giving the Greek gods a larger role in Odysseus’ journey home.

Turns out there’s always more to the myth.

Emma Spencer rethinks what makes you rich

Forget the bank balance for a moment.

Sales Administrator Emma Spencer recommends Robin Sharma’s The Wealth Money Can’t Buy for a very different take on what it means to be wealthy.

The audiobook looks beyond money and material success to the things that can enrich everyday life – from time and experiences to relationships, health and personal growth.

Emma particularly likes the perspective it offers on the smaller things we can easily overlook.

When life needs a slight recalibration, she says it makes for a pretty effective reset.

Elizabeth Taylor travels before take-off

Assistant Property Manager Elizabeth Taylor isn’t waiting until her holiday begins to start exploring.

With a trip to the UK and Paris approaching, she’s been devouring travel podcasts about both destinations. They’re helping her learn more about the places on her itinerary while picking up practical advice and firsthand experiences from people who have already been.

There’s useful information, of course. But Elizabeth also loves that every episode keeps the anticipation building.

Who says the holiday has to start at the airport?
